The What If Generation smashed it at ABSENT
My first impression was of small and intimate club with a very different looking crowd. A real mixture of styles. The ticket and the drinks were fairly priced and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately I missed the first band. The second band, The What If Generation, in my opinion, were brilliant. From the opening rift of the first track, which was dark and sexy, to the last note of the last song, that was almost in the genre of drum and bass! - I was totally gripped, abdorbed and definately entertained. The three guitarists and drummer banged out an assortment of styles that I could attribute to the likes of Wishbone Ash and Elvis Costello, all rolled together with exceptional and inspirational bursts of the electtic guitar like Jimmy Hendrix. The small crowd showed their appreciation with a deafening roar and called for more tracks, but sadly, time was up. It was such a shame to see the club fill up with such swiftness after the bands finished playing. The other punters really missed out on an amazing first performance of this promising band. With venues for live bands closing at an alarming rate, it is essential that small clubs, with nights like ABSENT KELLY, remain well established and represented, in order for Britain's new talent to enter the music industry and help it stay alive.
