What people are saying about Afro Celt Sound System

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The happiest time of this year I went to see the ACSS in Glasgow. It was a school night straight from work to the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow on my own. The best time i have had in a long time!! It was the first time for me to see one of my ever favourites bands which i have followed since the very start. I lived in Naples, Italy then this is where i got to know their music. 20 ywars back I used to going to a records shop owned by friends which was our friends meeting point too just beside our local dance club and bar..so many beautiful memories and im proud to say that the Afrocelt Sound System were already well know in Italy and in my circle of music friends then. I used to asking the guys in the record shops to recommand me any new albums to buy and so i was introduced to the band's first album! 20 years later finally i had the honour to attend their gig and even meet the band afterwards. All the musicians were so friendly and approachable and i feel some new friendships have started too. I believe the last album is a wonderful work probably the most representative of the band as it really captures so well the afrocelt spirit with their amazing sounds, melodies, music and singing. I could not stop smiling and i was so happy to see that everyone stood up and dancing from about the second or third song and until the very end. It was actually a lovely lady seating next to me that started it off and then everyone joined in. I was so surprised and i had thought to myself i can' t just seat while this wonderful music is being played..i must say the audience surprised me and touched me straight in the heart as much much as the band did. Usually crowds in UK don't easily stand up and dance when a concert is seated and played in a formal venue like an auditorium or a theatre but no they did and i never felt more at home than that night of last November 2017. I admire this band and the energy and love they communicate through their music. As being an Italian very accostumed to African music which is very popular expecially in the South of Italy and then spent the last 19 years leaving in Scotland getting to learn and appreciate British folk and Celtic music the night of the concert i felt so emotianal because finally all the music that means a lot to me from Africa, the Mediterranean up to British Islands came together in such a beautiful way that only the ACSS can do. It felt very reassuring comforting, beautiful and very happy. Thank you all so much for your amazing music and energy. I look forward to the new dates next year!!! Best Wishes and love to ya all Simona

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Avoid Princess Pavilion, Falmouth Saw the band at the Eden Sessions back in 2004 so was looking forward to this 'catch up'! Great night, lively band, very lively audience but what a terrible sound system! :-( Any finesse or delicate instrumentation was drowned out by the overall 'noise' coming from the stage and, given the ticket price, was not good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great variety and energy Afro Celt are working closely these days with the support act, The Dohl Foundation, which produced a great evening of everything from powerful rhythm to heart-felt song. The variety of the evening was excellent keeping everyone engaged. The venue was good too; not too many people nor too few with a very positive atmosphere. Drinks and ticket prices were rather high but, all in all, reasonable value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ACSS filled the Tramshed with joy The Tramshed, Cardiff still had tickets up until the day before 22 November but the room was bouncing when we sidled in from the bar. The Dhol Foundation were an ideal warm-up, and their leader, ACSS's Johnny Kalsi was a great MC. After a short break, ACSS filled the stage with passion, bonhomie and fine musicianship. There was that magical synergy that happens when a great band is on form and the audience is up for it. So many smiling faces and so much unrestrained jigging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as amazing 20 years later! Saw Afrocelt in a small club in Bristol about 20 years ago so was delighted to see them playing such a big venue. Went with my husband and 11 year old daughter: her first gig! They did not disappoint! Amazing vibe from the start: the Dhol Foundation as support blended seamlessly with the main set by Afrocelt. The combination of instruments and rhythms were superb. What I love most about Afrocelt is that they perfectly represent the unity this world so needs; bringing together people from so many countries and cultures but all for the common belief in music and it’s unifying force. I won’t leave it another 20 years to see them play again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NIGHT TO REMEMBER! Both my husband and myself had an outstanding evening. What an absolute joy these people are to watch and listen to. It was music that made you feel happy and it made you want to dance, it was impossible to stand still! Really hope they come to the Tram-shed again....we'll be there!
