Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pirate Metal Rocks \m/ I went to the Alestorm gig with local and international friends! We had a fantastic night - Alestorm rocked as usual; 40 people “rowing” on the floor was a new one on me :) Managed to catch Rumahoy, who were funny! More of this please!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great show, with a single drawback Overall, the show was great - great atmosphere, great performance by all 3 bands (better than the studio albums!); I was very impressed with both of the supports, especially the first band (the Dread Crew of Oddwood), who were very unexpectedly unique and fresh sounding. As I said, the show was great, and Alestorm performed fantastically, as well as playing a really solid setlist that combined a lot of their big hits with some new songs and overall just felt very 'complete.' The only reason I cannot give the show 5 stars is that the volume for Alestorm was too loud. I have been to my fair share of metal shows, and am always about the same distance from the speakers (about 5-8 rows back), which was the exact same for this show. The volume for the supports was certainly loud, but it was a 'comfortable' loudness - it was the loudness I had expected from numerous years of attending similar shows. But when Alestorm's technicians were preparing for them to come on, they turned the volume up noticeably and unnecessarily - this was not the venue, it was most certainly the band's techs, as we could see them actively testing the various instruments until they were as loud as they wanted. The volume was now a bit on the painful side for the rest of the show, and has left me with what I hope is only temporary tinnitus - but this was not the main problem. I respect that this is largely my fault for not bringing ear plugs. The main problem was that the unreasonable volume compromised the sound quality - I feel that if I hadn't known all the songs being performed, I would not have been able to detect 90% of the lyrics or the keyboard melodies (each key parts of Alestorm's sound). This seemed like something that would not have changed regardless of where we were in the audience - we moved around a fair bit, both backwards, towards the middle and towards one side at various points, and the sound quality suffered from the same excessive volume regardless of where we were. As I said, it was still a fantastic show, and this may have just been a one-off, but I would highly recommend anyone going to see Alestorm to ensure they have earplugs as a precaution and try and be a decent way back and as central as possible (admittedly difficult owing to the tendency for the centre of the audience at metal shows to turn into a moshpit) to try to get the best sound quality possible. Would still highly recommend their shows to any fan though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great atmosphere 3 great bands on one bill, the venue was a bit too packed for my taste though and moving around was difficult from bar to front, toilets back to mates etc. but the sound was great, the bands were great and a good night was had

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant gig My friend has seen Alestorm before and said I should go. In a packed engine rooms Southampton the first two groups got the party off to a swing! Then Alestorm came on and from the start were stonkingly good, very easy to sing along and have a good time. Easily the best gig for some time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic gig Great venue which copied well with a sold out crowd. Door staff were efficient and the bar was very well staffed. Gig itself was fantastic as you'd expect. The two support acts were solid and Alestorm were on fine form with much merriment to be had for all. Never miss a chance to see these guys when they're in town - they never disappoint.
