A gig of two parts! The first 10 songs were hugely impressive: I'd been wondering whether Katie would be able to reproduce the same mighty vocals live but need not have worried: I was in awe at her singing, the outstanding performance being “I'm a Monster” where her rendering of the repeated line “I don’t feel nothing any more” was spine-tingling.
But for the final six songs the instrumental sound was ratcheted up to an uncomfortable level and her magnificent voice was often inaudible. It was very exciting, perhaps, and the dancers amongst the audience seemed to love it, but it wasn’t an easy listen, and “The Villain” was a wild cacophony.
There was minimal involvement with the audience, though Katie made a nice joke of the need for a re-start to “Future Politics” and of the sound problems before starting “Forgive Me”. But she performed with impressive poise, precision (with clear evidence of her classical training) and obvious enjoyment.
