Booking Period Until 24 September 2011 Reece Shearsmith will not be performing on the following dates: 29 August-3 September. Sarah Lancashire will not be performing on the following dates: 18-27 August, 29 September-1 October, 20-22 October, 17-19 November. The new musical Betty Blue Eyes has been written by Cameron Mackintosh proteges George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Mary Poppins, Honk!, Just So) and is based on Alan Bennett's screenplay A Private Function. The original 1984 film starred Michael Palin and Maggie Smith. It is set in a small Northern town in 1947 shortly after the Second World War, where rationing is still very much in evidence and a group of local businessmen plan to hold a party to celebrate the forthcoming royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip. They decide to illegally raise a pig (Betty Blue Eyes) for the occasion, but hen-pecked chiropodist Gilbert Chilvers (Reece Shearsmith) and his wife Joyce (played by Sarah Lancashire) have other plans and decide to steal the pig. Ann Emery who played Billy's gran in the musical Billy Elliott is playing Mother Dear with David Bamber (Swaby), Jack Edwards (Allardyce), Mark Meadows (Lockwood) and Adrian Scarborough (Wormold). Meanwhile a food inspector is determined to stick to the rules regarding food rationing. Betty Blue eyes will be directed by Richard Eyre and choreographed by Stephen Mear. The show is based on a book by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman, with music by George Stiles and lyrics by Anthony Drewe.
