Strangely disappointing experience
I went to this event for The headline performance by Bing & Ruth high was really very good indeed. In the intimate performance space with the lights turned off the music was often mesmerising.
However u found the hosting event, “Float” quite lacking, mostly through the lack of chairs.
I understand that the floor space needed to be clear for the supporting dance act, who was also very good, however I do feel that the whole experience would have been vastly improved had everyone not been forces to either stand stoically or sit awkwardly on the floor causing a lot of distracting figiting. I couldn’t help feeling that the organisers of the event were being too unconventional by not providing any seating. It is also rather inconsiderate of people who may have physical conditions which would make standing or sitting on the floor very uncomfortable if not impossible. Standing at concerts works for certain mediums, but an intimate and atmospheric showcase of piano music isn’t one of them in my view. I certainly feel that the lack of seating should have been made clear beforehand, however it was not even alluded to.
The other support featuring piano and drums was occasionally interesting but mostly fairly indulgent and lacked cohesion between the two performers.
So in summary, some beautiful music and a lovely intimate venue massively let down by a lack of seating.
