What people are saying about Caravan

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great start to the year's gigs I last saw Caravan in 1978. They were great then, and they are still great. Two of the members are still as then. The 1865 was a new venue for me, it was comfortable and easy. A great night out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Caravan at The 1865 Southampton I've seen Caravan a few times over the years, and they never fail to please, with great songs and craftsmanship. Very much enjoyed '9 feet underground' and suspect that was what most of the audience had gone to hear too. My first visit to 1865, and again very pleased with everything! I will be returning to see similar bands, and Caravan again I hope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canterbury prog at its best I saw Caravan once a few years back at Shepherds Bush Empire. That gig was superb, despite the fact I was seated very far from the stage. This gig however was extraordinary. As I had the chance to stand in the front row a few inches from the band it was one of the most intimate gigs I have ever seen. These guys still rock, and as a great fan of prog rock and the Canterbury scene in general, this gig was a real treat in every aspect. The set list was very well balanced, mostly the great classics a few newer songs here and there but those were great as well, especially one called 'Dead Man walking", which sounded much stronger and a tad more jazzy and athmospheric than on the record. Overall, the sound was very well mixed and the songs masterfully arranged. All the musicians were superb. Of course Geoff Richardson, the viola (and flute and spoons and whatnot) virtuoso was the main speaker as usual, giving the dry English humour and wit we got used to, occasionally accompanied by the Man himself, Pye Hastings, who is the only original member of Caravan, and the most recogniseable trademark voice of the band all over the years. Mr. Walker, the new drummer is a treasure, a gifted, very positive, extremely lively and funny character, his playing is top notch, I would steal him for my band if I could pay enough. :) Jan Stelhaas is the one I watched the most being a keyboardist myself, and I can tell I was amazed by his unique, very tasty and very precise playing style. If someone can replace Dave Sinclair on keys, it must be him, so Pye Hastings knew who to choose. And of course Mr. Jim Leverton who is the biggest veteran of them all played with Noel Redding and several other great names in the past. Amazing old school sound and style, precise, very sturdy, very English. It was a joy to listen to his not overly difficult but very stylish and tasteful bass solo, which was even mentioned as a rare treat by Mr Richardson after the song. Overall: this was a spectacular gig, one of the best I've attended from the oldschool greats! Caravan has always been one of my fav bands, but after this night even more so!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real treat I went with friends who didn’t really know the band and I hadn’t heard them for years but I wanted to see them live as their music was a big part of my past. At times the hair on the back of my neck was standing on end. My friends loved it. Loved the changes in tempo. All very authentic and original.
