Like a lot of 50 year old men, I trawl the live circuit trying to fill a Mark E Smith shaped hole in my heart. Often a fruitless experience. Every so often something comes along that heals that wound for a brief moment. Last night the Heavy Lungs were my physicians. Despite a mediocre turn out they gave everything they had. A gorgeous band of kids front of stage moshed with all their might. Members of the band prowled the audience creating electricity and tension out of thin air. Kids that were previously strangers hugged, screamed and lovingly battered each other in a beautiful frenzy at the front. The noise was at times excruciatingly loud but transcendental in its splendour. I came away with a fixed grin that didn't fade until some time early this afternoon. Just an almighty experience. See this band.
