Really great gig but poorly managed VIP experience
The Platinum VIP Experience itinerary email read;
Check In Time: 3:00 PM
FAILURE TO CHECK-IN AT THE TIMES LISTED WILL RESULT IN A MISSED VIP EXPERIENCE.
So I, like others arrived 20 minutes early. It was freezing, and wet. The door finally opened at just before 4pm, and we were ushered quietly inside mid sound check. No one felt very important.
I'm sure the first people through the door were instructed to sit quietly as the rest followed.
Why we weren't allowed in, to sit out of the way in the bar prior to the sound check starting is beyond me.
Although feeling under the weather, Ingrid was a trooper and played a few songs. Then obliged us (~25 people) with a photo opportunity. She was incredibly polite, charming, and professional, but I'd have happily skipped the rushed photos if I'd known she could have better rested before the gig.
Immediately after the photos we were ushered out of the venue and told to return two and half hours later at the 7pm start time (The venue has a cafe and a bar, although neither were open, and everyone really just wanted a warm drink)
The priority queue allowed entry first at 7pm, and I got a seat near the front, although the venue is fantastic, and really there are no seats too far away from the stage.
The support at 8pm (Sugar and the Hi-lows) played a good set, and complimented Ingrid's musical style.
Ingrid's set at 9pm was superb. Although admitting she had a cold, she sounded impeccable. The venue worked so well for this concert.
Curfew was at 10:30 and I think she managed to complete the set list.
A truly brilliant artist, and I feel privileged to have seen her perform live. Allie Moss (backing) was also so very talented and sounded amazing.
I can only hope she comes back to the UK soon, as I'd definitely see her again (although I probably wouldn't book "VIP" tickets next time)
