Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great celebration of the music of Rory Gallagher The support act was Dom Martin - an acoustic guitarist who played some acoustic versions of Rory Gallagher tracks, some of which were acoustic in their original form and some surprises - a very good set. The headline act was The Band of Friends: Gerry McAvoy who played bass with Rory Gallagher for 20+ years; Brendan O'Neill who drummed with Rory Gallagher for a decade; and Marcel Scherpenzeel who played the part of Rory Gallagher with a (presumably replica) battered 1961 Strat... As the acoustic set had been provided by Dom Martin, their set was (literally and figuratively) purely electric... Gerry McAvoy was as enthusiastic as he ever was - bouncing and grimacing while providing half of the solid foundation of the set. The other half of the foundation was provided by Brendan O'Neill, who was superb. Marcel Scherpenzeel was also brilliant - vocals on all bar one of the tracks and, of course, playing the battered Strat with great dexterity. It was great that Rory Gallagher's music is being kept alive and that The Band of Friends are the guys doing it and that they have the talent to do this justice. It is still sad that Rory Gallagher is not here to be playing his own music. Go to see Dom Martin or The Band of Friends if you get the chance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helping keep Rory's music alive Gerry McAvoy is doing a fantastic job of keeping Rory Gallagher's music alive with Band of Friends where it should be heard - in a live setting. Led by superb guitarist/vocalist Marcel Scherpenzeel they delivered a two-hour set of Rory classics to a packed crowd in a fitting tribute to the great man. Look forward to their return to London Town!
