Going back to your first solo album in full might be a hard ask for some artists but straight out of the blocks the ‘Fine Art of Self Destruction ‘ was a stone cold classic. Live in it’s entirety it was a privilege to witness. Jesse Malin is affecting, a sharp talker, his singing voice is soft, strong with a huge amount of character. We also got a couple of covers and a couple of new songs (can’t wait for the new album) . Mostly though we got a fabulous show, a tight but relaxed band who really new when to lift and to shine but also when to wind back and let Jesse shine. In short a fabulous show from one of the best singer songwriters out there. Good venue (Bullingdon Oxford) who don’t take the mick on beer prices too. Must also big up the support Stephen Chopek, a brave singer songwriter in a slightly Bob Dylanish style (acoustic guitar and harmonica) but fine songs and a performance style that grabs and keeps your attention.
