What people are saying about Jim White

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jim White never lets you down. Very good concert. I've seen Jim White a few times and he's always engaging, a born story teller and a great musician ably assisted by his fellow players.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Was looking forward to this one but ended up sadly disappointed. The talking between songs took up more time the actual songs and all in all just a bit boring. Shame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Already waiting for next JW concert at Trades Club I've seen Jim White several times over the years, in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Chester and Hebden Bridge (2x) and have never been disappointed. Of course I'm biased, ever since seeing a snippet of Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus on the brilliant BBC Arena arts TV series many years ago, then re-discovering the film soundtrack through a chance conversation with HMV staff, I've been hooked. Jim's inimitable, relaxed and easy style instantly makes you feel that you're catching up with an old friend whilst his haunting lyrics, pure understated guitar playing and stories of Floridians done wrong, sound like no such place (title of Jim's 2001 album) you'd want to be in but that draw you there nevertheless. Although an accomplished guitarist, Jim's presence at live events is perhaps more attributable to his between-songs storytelling - this time mostly rebounding off his latest album - Waffles, Triangles and Jesus - as so often, the themes of Jim's songs is the presence/absence and power of the Lord.... along with a healthy and amusing interest in the unusual names of felons and coincidental events when Jim's in town rehearsing his songs. The man is a magnet for the strange and surreal... Jim White, I salute you! It is testament to your gift - as a musician and a storyteller, that audiences pay a respectful silence to your artistry, not wanting to miss a treasured moment from this too rare a live performance in this thriving West Yorkshire town. Come back soon's all I can say!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jim White backed by Circada Great evening, last night of tour with Jim's inimitable anecdotes between songs. Circada played the first set and then backed Jim leaving him to do the last two numbers solo. One of the best gigs I have ever been to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Idiosyncratic, loopy, insightful, mournful, uplifting & Wonderful Dingwall's entrance is hard to find as its not signposted until the doors open but luckily I had been there before. Cicada Rhythm were both excellent support band and Jim's backing band. Jim as usual was unusual. After the opening of his act he informed us that he was auctioning his jacket and the shirt off his back for Drs without borders. He made a point of telling us that neither were really anything special but that the cause was worthy. He sold the shirt for £40 and the Jacket for £100. Throughout his performance he told his stories which brought the songs to life with deeper meanings. He was brilliant throughout the show. I've seen him four times now and each show has moved me, made me laugh and made me cry. Fantastic night!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Memorable I love Jim White, but live he is mesmerising. He just loves telling stories, has a rye sense of humour and lyrics that worm their way into your memory. Why he isn't more well known? Please ask him back soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So glad I caught this amazing performer & his brilliant band Friendly, helpful staff at Dingwalls - which is a great place to see live music - but Jim White was a revelation - he was fantastic! Only heard him being interviewed on Radio 6 and decided to check out if he was playing near me. I will be going to see him again. Cx
