What a blast at the KT Bush gig on Friday night at Hertford's Corn Exchange (16 Feb 2018). Always a difficult thing going to see a 'tribute' band - never know if it will be cringe-worthy or cathartic. Needn't have worried, with 2 original members from the first KT Bush Band (back in the day when Kate herself was lead singer with them on the pub circuit, trying to rack up some live gig experience while she was signed to EMI but before she went global), the musicianship was superb. I was lucky enough to see Kate live at the Palladium on her Tour of Life in early '79 - and this show brought back so many happy memories. Sallie's vocal range soared and swooped and mirrored so many golden moments from the Kate Bush back catalogue - and surprised with more 'recent' numbers like Hounds of Love and Lily. Truly excellent performance and so great to hear songs I haven't heard played live for nearly 40 years (yes, count them!) - from the opening 'Moving' (complete with whale song) to the sublime Man With the Child in His Eyes, Oh To Be In Love, L'Amour Looks Something Like You, Them Heavy People, Breathing, Army Dreamers, Babooshka, and slightly later stuff like Cloudbusting, Running Up That Hill, The Big Sky, Hounds of Love, Lily....classic after classic and all sung with abandon and vocal dexterity. Went with 3 friends and we all loved it. Shame it wasn't a packed venue, which these guys totally deserve - I'm sure if more Kate Bush fans were aware of them they'd attend in their droves - this is more than a tribute band; it's a fine, talented group of musicians making music that needs to be heard again, because Kate ain't ever going to sing them live again that's for sure. Great evening, and already looking to book tickets for Weybridge on 14 April. If you are a KT Bush fan, then you have to see this band live.
