What people are saying about Lindi Ortega

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intimate and refreshing It was great to see Lindi performing her songs with a stripped down band; drums, guitar and herself on guitar for about half the numbers. She has a lovely stage manner and played a good mix of old and new. Gorilla club is agreat little venue

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best gig so far this year for me. I love The Garage as a venue anyway, but seeing Lindi Ortega there (for the second time) made Thursday a very special evening. Great performance as ever from Lindi and her band. 'Champagne' James Robertson more than lives up to the name: an absolutely brilliant guitarist and a perfect foil for Lindi's vocals. Loads of old favourites and new songs from her latest album. Great stuff! Lindi always makes herself available for a chat after the gig too and shows how much she values her fans by giving up her time. I should say that I enjoyed the support act, Josh Okeefe, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real person who speaks to people afterwards Brilliant singer, excellent guitarist and drummer. Someone not too big for her little red boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An exhilarating performance This was a really enjoyable gig, its outstanding features being: Lindi’s amazing voice, which is so powerful with such an impressive range; her delight in performing; and her incredible energy. She performed for almost 90 minutes, during which time she hardly stopped moving and dancing; in fact she commented towards the end:” I’m worn out with all this dancing. On my next record I’m going to sit in a chair!” She has an easy engagement with the audience - pleased when many sang along with her - with lots of smiles and humour, and it adds to the pleasure to see a performer evidently enjoying the act of performance so much. Part of the enjoyment - hers and ours alike - also lies in her Goth appearance, red boots, her hair in amazing long black ringlets and heavy red lipstick. She draws on her own experiences to sing of heartbreak and failure with an intensity and sincerity which are profoundly moving, but she can also balance the tragic with a sense of humour: introducing “I Ain't the Girl” she commented; “I wrote this next song for a guy who just wouldn’t get it … He got it!” She was also happy to share with the audience that her bass player had just bought some new shoes for just £10! And when she commented in a heavy foreign accent that her guitar did not seem to be working before singing “Tin Star” she mocked herself: “When things aren’t working I turn Russian all of a sudden!” With her voice, the quality of her lyrics and the sheer exuberance of her performance - her rendition of “When You Ain’t Home” was as sensual a performance of a song I’ve ever experienced! - I’m amazed that she isn’t much more popular and singing to much bigger audiences in much larger venues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Lindi was great, what a voice - love her country broken hearted melancholia! The band were most excellent too especially the guitarist. Jordan, the support act was very enjoyable too. Shame they didn't seem to expect a crowd and brought more merchandise but hey! The sound at the Globe was excellent, lovely clear vocals!
