Must one the great live performers of now
I only came across Lizz in the past 18 months or so. I became mesmerised by a cycle of Youtubes, especially her interpretation of Riverman. I felt compelled to see her when the opportunity arose and it did at the Union Chapel, one of the best venues in London. So expectations were high and we were not disappointed. Lizz has a great stage presence, so natural, nothing contrived and a great communicator. Her set develops and builds with power and intimacy. Whether covers or her own songs, they are all stand-outs. And her voice - there's a majesty in there - both dignity and magnificence. I especially loved her cover of Old Man (NY) and what sounded like a KD Laing number. I've been to many gigs and this was a stand out, made me realise I have fallen short of seeing great female artists, Lizz certainly sits alongside the few I have seen - Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Mavis Staples, Juliet Greco, Oumou Sangare and Mica Paris (covering Ella). She's deserving of a far wider audience - perhaps in the way that Gregory Porter is appreciated beyond the jazzheads. Oh and by the way a great band and what a pleasure to hear a Hammond Organ played by so well.
