One of those "I was there" moments
Seeing One of the New York Dolls up close and personal in the Peli has to be a dream come true. Sylvain appeared to a huge reception from the 40 odd punters crammed into the lounge of the hotel. Starting with some tongue in cheek banter with the audience, he kicked into "Teenage news" encouraging crowd participation. He was joined by Alison Gordy after a couple of songs, and they played a set consisting of Dolls songs with a few covers by the Velvet Underground and Eddie Cochran, mixed in with a few stories of the Dolls in-between, which wetted the appetite for more. The 90 minute set was over in a flash, with the beautiful "Leaving New York", after which we were treated to a Q and A with Sylvain and Alison compered by host Mick Robinson, and later thrown open to the audience. Some interesting questions with open answers followed, about the highs and lows of Sylvain and the Dolls. Sylvain was happy afterwards to sign copies of his new book "There's No Bones in Ice Cream" and any other memorabilia, as well as chat to fans. I sensed leaving the hotel I had witnessed One of those "I was there" moments.
