Orla Outstanding at Omeara
Just over a year ago I saw Orla supporting Fenne Lilly and thought she was superb, it was time to see her properly and it had been quite a while since seeing a proper pop rock artist. I was not to be disappointed. Her guitarist arrived on stage at exactly 9pm and as it seems quite common these days pressed a button on a midi controller keypad and off we went. What followed was a set of 13 songs, excluding the encore, all delivered with gusto to a very appreciative audience. Almost everyone present knew everything being sung and there a delightful amount of interaction between Orla and the crowd, it was all rather good. For one song, and I lost track of which, Tessa Violet and another friend Grace, and I also missed her surname, joined Orla on stage and that too was wonderful. Orla then left the stage, no one moved expecting an encore which we naturally got with one more song.
Support was Tessa Violet who did an acoustic set on her own, this was not actually true and most of the audience joined in singing along. She arrived on stage to wild cheering wearing her green jumpsuit from the Bad Ideas video which went very well with her yellow hair! The start of her set was Bad Ideas and what followed was half an hour of wonder. Her song Crush, which we were all encouraged to sing along too, was changed slightly to reference Orla. Her music is perfect pop, there is nothing to dislike and the whole set was wonderful.
