What people are saying about Poppy Ackroyd

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poppy Ackroyd - Manchester Anthony Burgess Foundation building Superb gig, with songs I recognised from the latest CD and others I didn't. Great use of the piano, not only playing but also by plucking the strings (first time I've ever seen someone do that). As well as the piano, Poppy built loops in addition to using some pre-recorded ones. Altogether, giving a great, clear sound. The music was complemented by visuals which were projected onto the exposed brick wall, rather than a screen. I was so impressed, I've already booked for another show in London.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So talented Young, talented, so composed and engaging. A very enthralling gig, more than worth the journey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm convinced Poppy Ackroyd is a true angel From playing piano beautifully with such flow, to using the instrument in ways I have never seen before (tapping on the underside and plucking the inner strings), all captured on a loop machine to build up & create layers of sound. Along with stunning visuals and violin pieces that take you to a different place entirely, she is humble and awe-inspiring. The best performance I have ever seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poppy Ackroyd: Anthony Burgess Foundation, Manchester It was wonderful, Poppy plays so elegantly and moves with subtlety and calm between piano, violin and ableton loops. Some loops were pre-stored and some she created on the fly-as she told us afterwards, it’s a case of finding a balance between the live performance and recreating the multi layered content of her compositions. She really loved the space with it’s raw brick industrial feel although a couple of pieces were affected slightly by it’s proximity to a road with a loud car or motorcycle intruding on the performance. She projected wonderful visuals created by Bristol visual artist, Tom Newell ‘Lumen’ using a low-tech revolving lantern method. Her favourite was for ‘Feathers’.
