Great Hopes for the Future
Marvellous to experience this wonderful Victorian Space being brought to life again. Having visited it several years ago before work started, I can see the effect of the upgrading so far, but most of all how wonderful an orchestral/vocal concert worked in this space, beautiful warm round sound.
The Concert itself was most apt with Trial By Jury having opened in the West End the same year as the Theatre originally opened, and it was given a top rate performance proving that G&S are genuine operatic scale works. Jane Glover led the BBC Concert Orchestra & Singers superbly, with Neil Davies giving a superb vocal & serious comedic portrayal of the Learned Judge, and an excellent nonchalant, magnificently sung, Defendant by Sam Furness, but not a weak link anywhere with all the performers giving their best.
A privilege to have been at this performance.
