What people are saying about Purple Rain: A Celebration of Prince

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Birmingham show I saw the man himself many times AND this concert was an excellent celebration, really enjoyed it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing He sounded like Prince, but there was too much focus on the band (especially the backing vocalists), rather than the lead singer. Too much NPG and most of the hits he did sing were half hearted. A lot of money to pay for a tribute act that didn't quite deliver.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disapointing I went to this show with my husband , sister and bestie but we were all disappointed by the performance, enjoyed some of the performance , but lost it’s way in the second set, a lot of focus on the band and was out sung by a backing vocalist , not enough revolution and too much npg jamming to other people’s hits.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My worstevent of the year Zero stars I’m afraid. Very disappointing in Birmingham tonight. He introduced his band 3 times. His vocal singer sang over him (female). Too many trumpets. Wrongly advertised as purple rain songs it was mostly NPG which to me was unknown. Lots of instrumental solo’s. More introducing of the band. No encore. Very poor. Have put in complaint to be honest.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Prince gig, poor sound and musical arrangements Sound of this gig was very poor, too much booming bass ,although the musicians were competent,it just didn't come across. The music of Prince is very difficult to replicate on stage but if your going to do it then the fills and highlights have to be heard clearly and they just were not. They need to go away and rehearse this act much better and make sure we have some light and shade highs and lows and get the parts to the songs more like the original, the parts were a bit sloppy second half we got some covers which also were sloppy in their arrangements,if your going to cover a song the arrangement has to be exact and it must come across it's no good just booming drums and bass. Finally some of the girls vocals were way to out front when it should be (Prince) that is clear and forward of all else. Sorry wasn't that good as a gig if your a musician/sound man.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite I have seen this band three times and I cannot wait to see them again. I can tell they loved Prince as much as I did. Not only that, they are absolutely fantastic. Jimi, Emma and all of the other musicians are absolutely amazing. I just wish they played London more often. I would be there all the time... Thank you for doing what you do. It makes me feel better. x Lourdes
