What people are saying about Rail Ale 2019

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first beer festival of 2019 As last year I travelled alone by train and thoroughly enjoyed the beer, food choices, entertainment and atmosphere. Looking forward to another enjoyable visit next year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite Ale Festival! 5th time at Rail Ale, and still enjoying it. Great atmosphere, added to by the live music, engines, and fantastic range of brewerys and food stalls that attend. Varied range of attendees, all ages, families, the odd doggo, all adds to the great friendly vibe. All the staff are always so friendly and helpful, really great day out for Ale and train fans alike.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor We went to the event on the Saturday evening, very (and I mean very) little bear lef it was a case of asking what they had left and the sound for the band was shocking, couldn't hear a word they were saying. Pity as we had been to see Joules Holland a few months earlier and it was a fantastic music venue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My first beer festival. My wife and I attended Rail Ale 2019 on Saturday, and really enjoyed our first Real Ale Festival, so much so I'm sure that we will be attending more in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great festival. I've attended this festival each year for the past few years and it's always a great experience. I meet my cousin at Chesterfield station and we catch the shuttle bus to the venue. This is a great service run by volunteers for a small donation, I think it would be an expensive taxi journey! Range of beers is excellent and always good dark beers. We particularly like the Derbyshire beer bar, always spoilt for choice. The only negative is noisy music during the afternoon session, it would be better to have a quiet afternoon on the Friday where people can talk without straits hear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We've been wanting to go to this local event for years, so glad that we finally got round to it! What a wonderful historical location to hold this event. The event organisers did a sterling job and should be proud of themselves. The whole evening had a very friendly feeling to it. I went with my husband who enjoyed trying all the different ales on offer and I loved the Gin Palace. It was such a success that a lot of the bars were running dry by the end of the night but that wasn't a problem as it moved us out of our comfort zone and made us both try something different. I usually only drink gin that tastes like gin as I don't like the flavoured ones. I would never have tried palma violet gin. Who knew that it would remind me of my favourite childhood sweeties? There were lots of independent food retailers and as I queued for the most delicious stonebaked margarita pizza, my hubby wolfed down a hot roast pork sarnie. We had some old school sweeties from the sweet shop for afters. The bands were brilliant and the headliners The Everley Pregnant Brothers were comical and entertaining with the audience participation being enjoyed by the very 'merry' rail ale drinkers! We had a very wobbly walk home and will definitely be going again next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic real ale choice; shame about the noise My first return to this beer festival for many years and wow how it's grown. Four enormous bars grown with real ales and ciders. The variety and quality were exceptional and to sample these among the resident locomotives in this old steam roundhouse was wonderful. For most of the afternoon a keyboard player and a duo entertained the crowds but later a rock band come on and we ceased to be able to hear each other speak and we were seated as far away from the speakers as was possible. We eventually gave up and went home. Please Messrs Organisers note this is a beer fest not a rock concert and have some feeling for people who appreciate a chat and just turn it down. PS the acoustics suck.
