To start with, we had travelled a long way to see the show and had to travel a long way home again, and had to bear in mind the distance from the venue to the underground and on to the rail station. We believed the show would start at the time stated i.e. 19:45. We knew there would be a supporting/opening act but were not expecting that three acts would take up the entire first half of the show, and that the main act would only start at 21:00.
There were no announcements as to time or artists performing; only Rodriguez himself was introduced.
The theatre was not even half full up until the main event, and the amount of alcohol being brought in by already well inebriated people was alarming. During the main event these same people were constantly disrupting our viewing pleasure by having to go to the toilet and then come back with more alcohol. As I was seated at the end of the row, I was up and down so many times to allow people to pass, and beer was spilled on me more than once.
Tha main event was also incredibly disappointing. Our ‘legend’ opened with a cover of a song that was not his own original, he forgot the words of songs, the songs were shortened, the band was out of time with him, and the encore consisted of 4 very short cover versions of songs that were not his own music.
Our feelings are that there was very little that was professional about the whole event. We paid good money to attend a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, after all, and our expectations were high. We left feeling very disappointed by the whole experience.
