More Information about She Makes War

She Makes War is the solo project of Bristol based multi-instrumentalist producer and visual artist Laura Kidd. Blending urgent indie rock with melancholy torch songs, SMW's new album ?Brace For Impact? will be released on 28th September 2018 via My Big Sister Recordings and is available to pre-order now.

"A fearless performer matching Marika Hackman's edgier singer songwriter style with Wolf Alice at their most grungy" - Music Radar UK

"The emotional resonance of Elliott Smith colliding with the barbed vigour of Sleater-Kinney" - Gigwise

Right now, the world needs a warrior. Thankfully, town by town and tour by tour, She Makes War has been widening her battle stance and soothing tortured souls with her no holds barred, peaceful protest music. Armed with songs to persuade and words that bite then linger with the sweetest aftertaste, She has a message - wake up world and Brace for Impact.

"People still live in fear of persecution and violence every day for the "crime" of being themselves," attests the nom de plume of melodic visualiser, storyteller and creator Laura Kidd. "With everything that's going on in the world, adopting a brace position to protect ourselves from external forces is more important than ever."

What people are saying about She Makes War

Rated 5 out of 5 by from She Makes Great Music She Makes War was fabulous at the Sebright Arms. Having seen her previously with a full band on a bigger stage, she's also great performing solo and a perfect fit for the venue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant, as ever This is the third time I've seen She Makes War, and she just gets better. Self-styled Princess of Gloom-Pop, her tunes tend towards the downbeat, but they are pretty much all excellent tunes, with great lyrics. She often uses a loop system to create, before your very eyes, interlocking patterns of instruments and voices, over which she then lays the main vocal and instrumental lines. Great stage presence, and good rapport-building with the audience. I have all her albums and will go see her again, if she comes anywhere near.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive Performance Having heard some of Laura (a.k.a She Makes War) material I was intrigued to see what she would be like live. Her music has been referred to as “Gloom Pop” but thats, in my opinion, uncharitable. Her music is very emotive and focused on her experiences, most of which are relationship based and, as we found out, are mostly about men! There wasn’t much of a crowd but we all seemed devotees and the gig was a good one with all songs, new or old, being well received and the set was more focused on the later songs earlier in the gig plus it even included a song request slot Laura kept the “banter” up very well and was clearly enjoying herself and after an intense but enjoyable set she went to the merchandise table and stood chatting with everybody - something that was very welcome too Both supports Bryde and Mark Watson were appropriate for the gig and I am suitably encourage to explore their music too

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Evening of Beautiful Voices and Mesmerising Performances A beautiful evening, great opening from Ryan Spendlove, captivating, spine-tingling set from Bryde, I've been in love with Sarah's voice for a while and this just made the love deeper. She Makes War, possibly the best I've yet seen Laura play, mesmerising, funny, warm, moving, biting and an instinctive rapport with her audience. Exceptional evening in the best little venue in the world!
