What people are saying about Spear Of Destiny

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spear of Destiny.... fantastic night, cheers Fantastic night in Level 3 Swindon. Venue had changed from the Vic but this was a fantastic venue. Support (Feather trade) were great openers. Spear of Destiny were note perfect and Kirk Brandon’s voice is still bang on. Loved this gig.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scaling the heights of Swindonia. Kirk Brandon is now into his 60's but still retains his truly unique vocal talents. His power, & almost operatic qualities, are unmistakable. Seeing Theatre of Hate in 1981 & being subjected to the threatening intensity of the Brandon stare, the brutality of the music had me on the hook from the beginning. The morph into Spear of Destiny took me along for the ride & inspired in me a loyalty & devotion to this day. The passing years have seen many line up changes till the relatively settled one on view tonight. One Eyed Jacks is still my favourite SoD album &, though perhaps biased, should be seen as one of the classics. Onto the gig. With Swindon not on my usual gig radar apart from a couple of visits to the soulless, sanitised barn that is the Oasis, first viewing of Level 3 promised much. Tiny, friendly, a true "whites of the eyes" experience beckoned. Spear hit the stage & played One Eyed Jacks chronologically & reinforces what a classic it truly is. From the power of Rainmaker, to the anthemic Young Men, the quirky Everything You Ever Wanted, the melancholic Don't Turn Me Away, to side one & traditional set closer Liberator. Onto the pure pop of Prisoner Of Love, the epic Playground Of The Rich, Forbidden Planet, the poppy bounce of Attica to the last album track These Days Are Gone with its the stunning Soprano Sax solo. Rosie & Grapes Of Wrath closed the set. SoD returned for a much deserved encore which climaxed with the sublime World Service. How do you pick a highlight from a set full of them? These Days Are Gone still does it for me, the transition from the delicacy & beauty of the opening to the kick in the gut power of the middle section that can only be truly experienced in a live setting, before the calm is restored with the ending. It's all about dynamics & this song has it in spades. The only disappointment? The criminally low attendance. I often wonder what the band must think when walking onto the stage to be faced with so few? Spear of Destiny & the Icon that is Kirk Brandon deserve a far bigger audience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic!!! I went with my wife and we had a brilliant time. The atmosphere was great and the sound was superb. We both agreed that we hadn't experienced such good sound quality before in a venue of that size. The support act were good too. Spear of Destiny were incredible and Kirk Brandons voice was flawless. They played so many great songs and we didn't want it to end!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Banana Just took me back to 1984 Hacienda! My 15 year old son must have been youngest member of the audience. He’s been to loads of gigs and says this is his best ever. Recently seen Idkes, Blinders & Fontains need I say anymore
