Speedy Ortiz glorious at The Garage
Sadie Dupuis and her band Speedy Ortiz had been touring back home in the USA for six weeks and then travelled to the UK to continue, they performed at The Garage in Islington on the same day they arrived which is crazy! However they pulled it off and their noise pop, grunge, indie rock sound went down very well with most of the audience which was large and appreciative. I had heard them on the radio many times and decided it I should see them in the flesh, bands live are so much better than recordings, radio etc. They played for an hour and it was all very polished despite their jet lag and the crowd loved it and then they left the stage, no one moved. They returned for the encore and we were treated to just one more song but is was terrific and that was it.
For support we were treated to two bands. Ex-Void were the first on, I had seen them before at the Waxahatchee show earlier this year where I suspect they had a duff night. Now they were much better, in fact very good, so certainly a band to be seen again. Next on were Doe, I had only seen them the week before supporting Dilly Dally and they were as magnificent supporting Speedy Ortiz as they were then.
All the acts took the trouble to watch each other which often is not the case, this I think is very important.
