Joyous, respectful, moving.
Speaking from outside of the the ardent Bolan fan fraternity, I found this a joyous, respectful and moving celebration of the man and his music. I usually hate dancing but just couldn't stop myself boogie-ing to some of the most infectious tunes in history.
It took me back to the days when I first heard classics like Raw Ramp, Thunderwing and Jupiter Liar, performed not by T Rex but by T Rextasy in the early nineties. That band introduced me to the breadth of Bolan's genius, so I was delighted to reconnect with their original guitarist - the gorgeous Mike Bezzi - at this event.
People travelled from all over the country for this. With a 100% original Bolan/T Rex disco, all manner of rarities and souvenirs on display and up for raffle, they were not disappointed. The event organisation was superb, and very obviously done with passion and dedication by a man with more than a little Marc in his heart! To top it off, all the money raised went to the Alzheimer's Society. So refreshing to see a tribute event organised to benefit a good cause, rather than to line someone's pockets. Well done to Paul Johnstone, aided and abetted by his family and lifelong Bolan friends. You cats know who you are!
