Good, But Could Be BetterThe guitarist playing the opening James Bond theme was more Hank Marvin than Vic Flick which was a bit of a disappointment as a starter. However then came the Bond themes brilliantly sung by Oliver Tompsett and Louise Dearman - for the majority of the evening these were beautifully done and great to hear live with the orchestra who for the main were superb. There are too many highlights to mention but Thunderball and Skyfall particularly stuck out for me.
My biggest disappointment was the deviation from Bond - a rendition of the "Pink Panther" theme and several medleys of tv cop themes (The Bill, Cagney & Lacey etc) which although well done didn't fit with the evening. Why not a Best Of John Barry or David Arnold medley instead as this was billed as being the Best Of James Bond? There are hours and hours of excellent orchestral moments from the films that would've fitted in nicely and kept with a Bond themed evening and it's a shame none of these were used. Also found the conductor's constant bumbling (forgetting the singers names, comments about his false teeth etc) were a bit tedious and detracted from his "Bond facts you might not know stories" which themselves were well done.
To summarise I couldn't fault the orchestra (opening theme aside) or either of the singers who were brilliant, my only gripe was purely with the content especially with so much good Bond music around left out of an evening entitled The Best Of James Bond.
