Good music but poor sound mix
This was my first encounter with John Hackett and his own band, having only ever seen him before in concert with his brother Steve the guitarist.
The material played was almost all original, with some from the album 'We are Not Alone' which sounds great. Excellent musicianship from the tight four-piece band throughout, with special mention going to Nick Fletcher on lead guitar with some scintillating playing. John himself is a multi-instrumentalist (not just a flautist), and he also chipped in with some of the vocals. Speaking of which, the sound levels in the rather compact venue of the Vic meant that the vocals were almost entirely drowned out, and this is the reason why I can only give a 3-star rating. Either I need to improve my lip-reading skills or better still the sound desk should get a major tweak: this is the only way to improve the listening enjoyment in small venues like the Vic.
Hopefully I will see the band again soon with the sound issues ironed out!
