What people are saying about The Manchester Soul Train

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Manchester soul train- funky but young! My friend and I LOVE soul and especially dancing. I go to Gorilla often and enjoy the ambience, service and laid back attitude. The event was well organised and a DJ offered funky tunes to get us in the mood beforehand. The event was very quiet at 11.30 as it started but soon picked up. A DJ with vinyl on show, a cool backdrop of 70’s soul train played on a screen behind him, giving us inspiration. The tunes were good, but mostly funk and we would have liked a bit more soul and Motown as it has a groove to dance to. The room soon filled, mostly with a young clientele obviously from the local university accommodation. What they lacked in dancing ability they made up for in enthusiasm, although I don’t think dancing was wholly on their minds. It made for a good atmosphere but hard for dancing with real intent. We still enjoyed it (even though we were the oldest there!)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good music - no soul trains! Music was good and disco gems were fun but for it to be a soul train night you kinda need a SOUL TRAIN.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They need to search up Soul Train The music did not embody Soul Train whatsoever. Even if you choose to play some disco and European 80s music, it should be heavily Motown, Funk and Soul. Found it quite insulting that they tried to describe what they played as 'Soul Train', and based on the Facebook comments that followed, I was one of MANY that thought this. Waste of my money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had the potential to be great The venue was cool, the idea of the music was good. Loved the silks on the ceiling. However, the DJs were rubbish. I wanted to enjoy the music, and wished they'd left some songs well along, without mixing it and doing 'cool' stuff to the songs (which just made them rubbish). Will not be coming back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from bangers weren't evenly distributed For a pretty steeply priced ticket, thought it would feel less of a soul-ISH club night. Went expecting to be boogying till the early hours but reality gave us a few occasional bangers.. it was only at 2.30/3am that the good ones were coming on! Music was a little quiet also.. I'm not into ear ringing music but wasn't really loud enough to feel absorbed in soul ya kno.
