What people are saying about The Music Of Cream

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the Cream of the crop I went to this gig expecting great things and musically by and large it was a great gig. The music of Cream and particularly Eric Clapton has been the soundtrack of my life and I was expecting great things especially as I ad seen Cream live at the RAH and felt it appropriate that Jack and Gingers sons had teamed up with Eric's nephew(?) to bring the music alive.. I was not disappointed. The playlist included not only all of the best known songs but also album tracks such as 'We are going wrong' and 'Pressed Rat and Warthog' that don't often see the light of day. That was quite refreshing. Musically it was tight and by and large stayed with the format of the original songs though some solos did meander a little into a different style to that of Clapton and Bruce which for me as a purist detracted a little but didn't ruin the experience. I have two small niggles. first was occasional lapses by both guitarists into punk like facial expressions and physical movements such as bouncing on stage and pulling faces. That belongs to another era and should stay there. Secondly as a former guitarist and latterly band manager who has directed sound, the sound balance was off with too much emphasis on bass and not enough on lead guitar or vocals on some songs. This venue is difficult to achieve a sound balance due to its shape and it would have been much better to use a sound engineer that knew the building well. As a result some songs were a bit muffled which marred the experience a bit but most people will not have noticed. That said, it was lovely to hear such familiar music played live again and to mentally relive my youth. All in all a very good gig but I do wish that the venue, which I have visited often over the years would do something about their very sticky floor!.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stand out 50th anniversary of a one-year old band Are you a lifelong lover of the four albums that were released at the end of the sixties, plus a couple more live albums, by Cream? If so, you will love The Music of Cream. The genes of Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce in their sons and sort-of in Clapton's nephew by marriage mean that Kofi Baker, Malcolm Bruce and Will Johns (the son of the almost-as-famous Glyn, who must also have passed on a useful musical gene or two), work so well together it is scarcely credible. They play only numbers played by the original band and always begin in the original style, but their improvisations are entirely their own, with some totally stand out ones. I have never heard "Sleepy Time Time" (not a favourite of mine on the original albums) sound as good: the tennis match between Johns and Bruce was outstanding. And there were other members of the audience saying that Kofi Baker is better than his father in "Toad". Don't think of these guys as just the poor man's Cream: think of them as carrying on the tradition and those songs for the present generation. I nearly chickened out: I'm So Glad that I didn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cream of the Crop Having seen the original Cream back in 1967 in Stoke on Trent, I was not sure what to expect from the sons/nephew of the band. I was not disappointed, they were amazing. I’m sure they were at least as good, if not better then the original. Stunning 12 minute drum solo from Kofi, amazing riffs from Will and driving bass from Malcolm. Great psychodelic lighting effects and sound system with wa-wa effects! I could have listened all night.
