Dub skiffle and punky folk
This was a fabulous evening out. Had been meaning to see Ouse Valley Single Club (OVSC) live for years, but never found the time. When the planets aligned to the extent that I was free; OVSC were playing locally AND Skimmington Ride (SR) were playing support, there was no choice but to attend - and that God I did. SR got us off to the flier. Their Pogues-based set was seasoned with surprises ranging from a rendition of Hard Times of Old England to a Hungarian wedding tune. The band provided a cracking canvas for the strong and mellow vocals of Joe Ferris.
The main event was a tour de force. A blissful advance from the obvious musical formulae which are the current mainstream. However, the themes were no less poignant for the lack of grime, and all the more potent for the humour. The innovation, energy, fun and familiar relationship with the live audience made this gig as uplifting as it was entertaining.
Will not wait for the planets to align before seeing them again, will get it organised in advance!

This band and the venue were excellent!
2nd time seeing OVSC- the gig was fantastic as I knew it would be. Really impressed with the support band Skimmington Ride - would pay to see them again. Always a great vibe at Esquires - been coming here for 30 years and I love it. Brought some friends with us and they’ve never been before and loved it!!

Very Good Gig
A very talented band with well written humorous lyrics pertinent to those living in the Ouse Valley and beyond.

A very memorable evening
We, that is myself, hsuband, two grown up kids and thier partners, went to see OVSC at The Duke's Head in Wisbech, having been introduced to their music online by our daughter's boyfriend. The recorded songs are catchy, and hilarious, but this is a band you really must see live, as there is nothing like the atmosphere of a small venue with a pint or two of beer for listening to what is essentially very simple, but utterly addictive, music. The outing was made even more memorable by the fact that our daughter's boyfriend chose that evening to propose to her, in public, just after the band played Girl From the Fens. Our thanks to the band members for their assistance with his grand gesture, he was so nervous!. Sadly we are on holiday when the band play their next local gig, but the other four, along with some more friends, have already bought tickets.
