What people are saying about The Return of Sherlock Holmes

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not our favorite Although the acting was as usual superb the actual play we did not enjoy due to far to much swearing and although we new Sherlock took drugs we think there was far to much emphasis on this , and the musical sound quality was rather tinny and loud

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good show I attended with my teen daughter, we are both avid Sherlock fans. It was well presented and great sounds and lights. Love how you captured the madness that was Holmes and the love hate relationship he had with everyone. One or two of the cast need to project better or have their mic tweaked up. The group of pensioners around us however didn't like the swearing and I was surprised at the smoking. Especially as it isn't allowed indoors.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from David Reid is a fantastic actor, but the only good part. But unfortunately the only fantastic actor in the performance. The character of Mrs Hudson was funny, and the actress was good at portraying her. Everyone else's performance tended to fall short of expectations, with either a very monotone performance (I'm looking at you John Watson), lines forgotten or messed up, terrible accents or just plain bad acting. The plot was fun but had little depth or intelligence that made Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories so fantastic, it also contained some rather disturbing plot points that would have been interesting had the actress not been forced to awkwardly repeat the same line recalling her experience over and over in just a bit too much detail until the whole room felt just as awkward as she looked. Ultimatly that case felt like a very forced (and failed) attempt at shock value. There were some lovely homages to Conan Doyle that were enjoyable and the set, lighting and music were very fun. I would probably go and see the play again only for David Reid's fantastic performance as Holmes and try to ignore plot and the other characters. Reid showed some brilliant talent on the stage that I was constantly in awe of and I could not reccommend seeing him act enough. Overall thanks to Reid we had an enjoyable night. Had the other actors been up to the standard Reid brought I would have given the play 4 stars, and had Reid not starred I would have given it only 1 star.
