More Information about The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole

This joyous new musical adaptation of Sue Townsend's best-selling book The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ -The Musical arrives in London for a strictly limited season! A timeless tale of teenage angst, family struggles and unrequited love, told through the eyes of tortured poet and misunderstood intellectual Adrian Mole. One of the most enduring comedy characters of all time, he's the hapless, hilarious, spotty teenager who captured the zeitgeist of 1980s Britain. With an infectious score and a script as sidesplittingly outrageous as the original novel, this critically acclaimed production brings Adrian's story to life for a new generation of theatregoers. Book and lyrics by Jake Brunger, music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary, directed by Luke Sheppard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous cast, and great production I was a fan of the Adrian Mole books as a kid and this show made me relive all those memories again. The cast were great and I loved the comedy they brought into playing multiple characters. Songs were good too and the set was very clever. I really enjoyed it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A fun afternoon! I'm so glad I saw this. I recently read the whole cycle of Adrian Mole books one after the other over just a few days and, as I was there at the time (the 1980s), recognised such a lot in Sue Townsend's wonderfully funny, focussed books. The musical seems to me very close to the spirit of the books. It's an excellent show for 2019 parents who WERE Adrian Mole or the lovely Pandora all those years ago; present-day offspring, however, will also find plenty to recognise and amuse them. It's a show which works perfectly across the generations. The young people around me loved it. The cast works really hard to give everyone a fun time. The songs are all easy on the ear; the design is good and rather clever. Adrian himself was superb: how amazing that a young lad can carry a west-end show so convincingly. (Shades of "Billy Elliot"!) The cast is small (like the gem of a theatre) and sometimes I felt that the sound scheme just amplified too much to compensate and make us feel we were in a much bigger theatre. An example: the scene where Adrian's Mum and Grandma have their (sung) slanging match. For me, it was just too loud. (I'm really old, however, so maybe younger theatre-goers will lap it up.) Do go, with your family, and have a great time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional musical adaptation I'm old enough to remember the tv series of this and as such was excited to see this musical adaptation with my daughter, who also grew up reading the books. WOW is all I can say!!! I Haven't laughed so much in ages. We also have a new favourite nativity. I would highly recommend seeing this and introducing Adrian mole to a whole new generation. Very well acted and expertly performed. Best Musical this year.
