Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! One of the best small gigs I've ever been to. Alison really got the crowd going and she and Gaz (now singing not on sax), made a fantastic sound. The rest of the band were superb too. Thanks for a great evening

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lynne Jackaman Supporting The South This was the third time at The Picturedrome for me, each time to see London soul queen Lynne Jackaman. I had previously see Lynne there in 2016 when she was the special guest to American rock band The Dead Daisies. Tonight, of course, it was as support to the wonderful The South. It really shows Lynne's appeal to lovers of great music, irrespective of the genre, when she is asked to perform with two very talented, but very different bands, such as these. This was the second successive night at The Picturedrome for The South and Lynne (and me!), and both shows were sold out! The venue was already nearing capacity when Lynne walked out on stage to perform her acoustic set, accompanied by her guitarist Jamie Evans (also the producer of Lynne's debut solo album due for release in 2018). The weekend shows were the first gigs that Lynne had performed outside of London for several months, so it was no surprise that many of the audience were made up of Jackaman (as her band is called) fans from the north of England and further afield. Judging by the familiar faces and Jackaman t-shirts on display, the barrier was largely comprised of Lynne's fans eager for a taste of the Muscle Shoals sound which Lynne had brought with her from Fame Studios in Alabama, the place where her PledgeMusic funded album was recorded. When you're performing an acoustic set on a big stage, you need a special song to grab the audience's attention straightaway. And that is exactly what Lynne delivered with the opening song, the fans' favourite 'I'll Allow You', a song full of drama, feeling and sensuality which was emphasised even more by Lynne's astonishing vocal range and seemingly effortless control. The amount of emotion which Lynne can extract from a song is incredible; it's almost like she's living the experience right in front of you. Songs such as the soul-soaked 'Nobody's Fault But Yours' demonstrated beautifully her ability to communicate these feelings to the audience. Add this wonderful vocal and song writing ability to her stage presence and charisma and there is no doubt that Lynne is one of the very best performers around today, a very special talent indeed! Song after song, Lynne owned the stage, and made full use of it too, often moving across its full width, sometimes singing directly to individual fans on the front row for a few moments, and I'm sure leaving them with their minds blown! And then the time came for 'On My Own Stage'. This is an extra special song for me, as I had only heard teaser clips of it over the last eighteen months up until Lynne's autumn shows. Right from the first listen on Meridian FM I fell in love with the song, and to hear it performed live was just incredible. I have to say a big thank you to Lynne for making a live version of it available to download via PledgeMusic. It knocks me out every time I play it, it really does! All too soon it was time for Lynne's last song, the astonishing 'Nothing But My Records On'. This is a song which perfectly showcases almost every aspect of Lynne's vocal ability, and this may well be the song which gains her substantial airplay once it is on general release, as it is also a tremendous song in its own right. Judging by the roar of approval from the audience at the end of the set, Lynne had won many new fans at The Picturedrome. It was a very, very special night, one which I will remember for a long time.
