Truly blew the roof off the Jazz Cafe!
I spontaneously went to this event for my birthday celebration with a group of friends. I had never heard of Transatlantic Ensemble, but was just desperate to hear some great Bowie songs - given that January is the month he was born and died. I prayed it wouldn't be a tribute band and it wasn't. I was apprehensive when I saw the two female singers and couldn't imagine they could pull off doing Bowie. But they also had a male singer/guitarist (who hinted at Bowie with his green eye-shadow) and had the class to do a tribute to the great artist, not try and take him off. And...WOW, WOW and WOW! After a slightly slow start with Space Oddity, but they ignited the crowd with Ziggy Stardust hits..Life on Mars, Starman, and later songs like Heroes and Under Pressure! There were all ages at the venue and EVERYBODY was singing their heart out. To say it was FAN-tastic is an understatement. They blew everyone's expectations away, and just for a moment, we all re-lived our Bowie youth and drenched ourselves in the song-fest. TOP NOTCH musicians, giving it everything, playing like there was no tomorrow. They didn't miss a note, including the amazing guitar riffs. JUST TERRIFIC!! Can't wait for their return to London.
