What people are saying about Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An amazing experience Not sure what we were going to see, presentation was excellent. Did not appreciate having to pay more for the virtual tour. Having said that it was a marvellous experience, without it the ticket price would not have been very good value.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did not live up to expectations... Went to this in York a couple of days ago and all 4 of us were rather disappointed to find that something with such potential had been done so very cheaply and frankly , quite badly. No attention to detail to be found anywhere in the experience, it really could have used it, in fact had a bit more thought and creativity been put in then this could have been an amazing experience. Instead, it was quite shocking to see so many grammatical errors and spelling mistakes and a massive disappointment in the virtual reality room, the screen was juddery and blurred, a bit rubbish really. We compained to the girl running the VR room and she just pleasantly explained that they had been having technical problems, no apology, no attempt to make good. Shame on whoever was in charge of pulling this experience together...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice experience but overpriced Went with a friend and thought that the initial experience was a little over priced, to sit in a room with projections. It was nice and after 5 minutes I relaxed and really enjoyed the experience but it was something that should be priced at £7-10 really. After reading mixed reviews we went on to try the VR. The drawing element just seemed like a bit of an after thought and it was quite crammed in that part of the church with the VR queue. We actually loved the VR experience and thought that maybe you should do this first before the immersive element, as it really gave an insight into the artists inspiration and his take on the landscapes. It was an additional £3 for this, and whilst they say they donate 30% to charity I think this should of been included. I really enjoyed the whole experience but comparing it to other exhibitions it does seem expensive for what it was as there isn’t that much there. I didn’t leave the event knowing any more about the artist, his life the progression of his work which was a bit of a shame. But I did enjoy it and would go again for the same experience with a different artist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning My best friend and I visited this on Monday and what as experience it was!! It was very moving; the soundtrack and wording fitted perfectly with the backdrop of Van Gogh paintings; and the fact that the paintings move is truly amazing. We particularly liked the raindrops falling on our heads and landing in perfect expanding circles on the floor. The overall effect was fantastic. It was quite quiet when we went in so there was plenty of space to sit and enjoy the experience. Van Gogh's troubled mind and lifetime trauma was well covered in the presentation.
