“Just when you think you’ve heard the best of the up-and-coming Americana stars, along comes one whose music almost takes your breath away.”—Nancy Dunham, No Depression

Andrew Combs is a songwriter, guitarist, and singer who lives in Nashville. Originally from Dallas, Combs is inspired by the great tradition of Texas songwriting exemplified by Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and Mickey Newbury.

Following the success of the 2010 EP Tennessee Time, this was followed up with 2012’s debut full-length album, Worried Man. While Tennessee Time displayed a decidedly Nashville sound, Worried Man draws on a folk-rock sound galvanized by the re-emergence of authentic American music coming from bands like L.A.’s Dawes. Worried Man, was named one of American Songwriter’s Top 50 Albums of the Year.

Andrew is also part of a Nashville renaissance in country-folk music that stems from the slicked-up rural country gems of Justin Townes Earle and the close-knit indie folk-rock of Caitlin Rose. He has toured with Jason Isbell, Shovels & Rope and Caitlin Rose (as a member and co-writer), it is his turn to take centre stage on his own UK tour, showcasing songs from his new record out soon on Loose Records.

"Andrew Combs brought the charm. With his long hair and his dry, deadpan wit, he had an easy-going Tim Riggins-reading-a-Merle-Haggard-biography-while-drinking-beer-in-a-hammock demeanour, and his songs revelled in classic country tropes, particularly those of the rule-breaking, vaguely rebellious nature."—CMJ

Matt is an exceptionally talented song writer who deserves to be heard. For me he was ‘The find’ of last year when I stumbled across his songs being previewed on Noisetrade (check out I went to see him play in Austin at SXSW this year and he was every bit as great as I thought he would be. My advice is for you not to miss out, make the effort to come out and see him play on this his first UK tour.

Matt McCloskey was born in Bryan, Texas, May 1982, and has lived in Texas the majority of his life. Since the 2009 debut release, ‘These Time Won’t Last,’ Matt has fearfully explored themes of pain, hope, and freedom in his songs, and become known for his cutting lyrics and truthful performances. His latest release, The Hard Rains, explores the most difficult sides of truth and the struggle to find it.
