THE WEDDING PRESENT play "Watusi" and other songs

The Wedding Present’s oft-called ‘lost album’ Watusi, could also be called their ‘marmite’ album… it polarised opinion like no previous Wedding Present release. Watusi was the first time the band committed to their lo-fi pop sensibilities… bravely eschewing the usual snarling guitars.

By 1994 The Wedding Present had travelled from Steve Albini’s claustrophobic and intense production on Seamonsters… via the twelve Top 30 singles of the Hit Parade series... into the arms of producer Steve Fisk’s pop-punk world and had thus entered the underground scene of Seattle, Washington. Indeed Watusi features two notable female singers from the Seattle pre-grunge era… Heather Lewis [Beat Happening] and Carrie Akre [Hammerbox]. Recording in Seattle in 1994 proved to be yet another ‘ahead of their time’ move from The Wedding Present.

The band will be playing all 12 tracks from Watusi on their autumn tour, along with a large sprinkling of their other landmark works.

Watusi will be re-issued later this year by Edsel Records.
