  • Description
Our Greenwich Highlights Half Day Tour is ideal for both individual travellers ( F.I.T.'s ) and coach groups. There is so much history and culture to be experienced in Greenwich and this tour introduces you to that in an entertaining way. You will be with no more than 5 other people and so this is really a private tour. We start at the Greenwich Royal Observatory, built in 1675 for King Charles II by Sir Christopher Wren. Here we take you to the prime meridian: world centre of time and space.

We also experience the John Harrison gallery with his amazing time pieces maintained in perfect working order by observatory staff. It was Harrison who was to eventually solve the longitudinal problem. From there, we walk down hill to the largest martitime museum in the world - the National Maritime Museum. So much to see as you could easily spend a whole day in this fascinating place! We do introduce you to the highlights and also make time for a short tea/coffee break at the lovely cafe there. Onwards now to the teaclipper Cutty Sark, the last remaining teaclipper in the world! She has been beautifully restored to her former glory, following a 6 year long and £50 M restoration.

We are onboard Cutty Sark and we also learn about how she came to be named " Cutty Sark ". Afterwards, we head over to the Old Royal Naval College which now serves as the main campus for the University of Greenwich. Wren's genius is everywhere to be seen, not least of all in the magnificent Painted Hall. Many movies have been filmed here and we tell you more on the tour. We normally complete the tour at the old Greenwich Market, in existence since the 1830's. It is now a popular London market, complete with vintage clothing, antiques, art galleries and fabulous street food. So put on your walking shoes and come along with us on this fun and educational tour.
