Wayne McGregor was appointed Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet in December 2006. The Company celebrates its partnership with McGregor in a programme of three works, including one new work to a commissioned score by Steve Reich. This world premiere, also marking Reich's 80th birthday, is presented with two important McGregor works. Chroma is an acknowledged classic of contemporary ballet; its tremendous success in 2006 paved the way for McGregor's appointment as Resident Choreographer. Carbon Life sees McGregor work with fashion and pop icons Gareth Pugh and Mark Ronson - "it rocks", said The Guardian at the 2012 premiere. In 2006, McGregor was a radical choice to follow in the footsteps of Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan and David Bintley. But ten years on McGregor is internationally regarded as one of the most important innovators in contemporary ballet. He has created numerous award-winning works for the Company - from many one-act ballets to the magnificent full-length Woolf Works - while also exploring the limits of what ballet can be, through extensive, imaginative collaborations with leading figures from beyond the ballet world.
