What people are saying about Sunny Afternoon

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fine .. But .. Went to see Sunny Afternoon matinee today An enjoyable show, for us the two highlights were an accapella version of 'Thank You for the Days' and the greatest hits finale Only two disappointments were that in truth it was 10-15 mins too long (plot) and the main man didn't sound or look like Ray Davies That's a bit of a handicap compared to Buddy, Jersey Boys and Let it Be (Beatles) that we've also seen productions of .. All of these undoubtedly benefited from an accurate representation of the main man. In addition hardly any of the main characters actually play their instruments (2 excellent drummers being the exception) Having said that, the production company of 20 ish are full of life with lots of clever costume changes and audience interaction A good afternoon out, but not a great one (the Harold Pinter Theatre front row Dress Circle seats couldn't have been bettered)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous show, a must see event! We went to the show with friends celebrating their wedding anniversary so we were on good form to start with, but as the show went on, our happy mood continued. What a performance from Danny Horn as Ray and Oliver Hoare as Dave; their relationship on stage was fab and the whole cast seemed to having a ball. As the show went on the audience began to sing and dance to the tunes of the Kinks and I have to admit to a bit of head banging and air guitar playing at the end. A must-see show - we'll be back!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from By the interval felt something was missing. Despite rave reviews, I was disappointed - did not join in with standing up and dancing at the end, so unusual for me ! Dave brilliantly bonkers but Ray, a difficult character to portray, despite his good singing, was dull. Overall, the singing and dancing plus the band (although too loud at times even for the Kinks) was good. So what was wrong with me, was it just that Monday evening - I hope so .....l saw the Kinks in the 60s - amazing !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Feel Good Show ! I went to see this show not really knowing what to expect other than my knowledge of the Kinks music. I was so impressed with the show, it was brilliant. Funny, sad, and of course brilliant music ! The Theatre was great and so perfect for the show. It was such a joy, and the audience joining in at the end of the show was just proof of everyone's enjoyment of the whole experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trip down memory lane the theatre is really unusual with the seating arrangements but has great atmosphere. we had good seats right near the front with a great view The show is excellent, really captures the essence of the 60s and the music is brilliant if very loud! thought the lead actor who played Ray Davies was spot on, even looked like him. Would recommend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sunny Afternoon - well worth seeing Of the many 'juke box' musicals, this one has the edge with some decent dialogue and the songs very intelligently integrated into the story. The cast are immensely talented and the set, direction, choreography and production values excellent. Sunny Afternoon is a real musical, rather than a concert with some odd bits of dialogue stuck in!
