Yannis Philippakis (born 23 April 1986) is a singer of the alternative indie and dance punk band Foals. He is of Greek and South African Jewish descent. He left Greece with his mother when he was five years old. His father taught him to dance the folk traditional songs and sing. Philippakis attended Magdalen College School and St John's College, Oxford, dropping out after his first year to pursue music. He performed as an actor in an adaptation of Marguerite Duras' Moderato Cantabile directed by Alexander Zeldin. In a BBC 6 hub session interview Philippakis expressed his desire to write 'Ballet with beats'. He will be touring Foals' second album Total Life Forever. Intentions to develop his Bins Are For Bombs project with former Foals and Youthmovies member Andrew Mears appear static, but may be rekindled at some point in the near future. Philippakis also appeared on Series 21 of BBC's Never Mind The Buzzcocks, on 24 January 2008. Yannis produced Trophy Wife's latest song 'Wolf'.
