What people are saying about Meshell Ndegeocello

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Legend in London Not the best venue for the band's subtle soundscapes, but a privilege to witness an artiste committed to quality. I would have liked to hear more of her back catalogue in the set, but this tour is all about supporting the album and that is a bit good, so no problem

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Support Band were excellent live and totally original sound and Michelle did some amazing covers. Harry Jay Steele has an amazing voice and writes totally original work and his band are superb musicians - Michelle was explosive vocally- a great gig!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An authentic voice in strange times I went to this performance on my own and was absolutely mesmerised by Meshell’s powerful but peaceful presence. Her voice in person is as incredible as listening to it on a pre-recorded track. I wish the show had been longer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only one Meshell I had an amazing time seeing Meshell mixing up songs from her latest album ventriloquism with classics from her 27 year career. Standouts were Wasted time and Atomic Dog which were fabulous.so great to go to a small venue and see a legend do her stuff. The crowd was so eclectic as well with young and old, black and white all in the groove. The band especially the drummer deserves a mention. I see a lot of live music so normally limit myself to seeing an artist once. I have seen Meshell 3 times! This was the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Music at its best! Ah yes, Meshell Ndegeocello. For one night only in the 500 capacity Dingwalls in Camden. First and foremost she is a soul sister who’s played with Prince, Marcus Miller, Chaka Khan and many more. Oh yes, she plays bass and sings from her soul. Tonight, however, she threw away the music charts and served up a twisted soul stew. Accompanied by guitar, keyboards and drums, Meshell gave us a lesson in music. Throwing funk, soul, rock, psychedelia and heck, even C&W into the mix, the band took us away to somewhere I’ve not been to many times before. In short, this was bloody epic. A soul pattern would shimmy off into a reggae feel before dissolving into Hendrix (1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be, springs to mind). So, she shook off the soul / funk shackles and created a whole new her. The last time I saw this kind of dramatic change was a couple of years ago at the Islington Assembly Hall – Riley Walker, a really folky chap who donned an electric guitar for the night and turned the upright bass player up to 11! Kinda Dylan goes electric at the Albert Hall… The sound was impeccable. A big hat’s off to the engineer for getting it spot on – not easy with the low ceiling of Dingwalls. You could have recorded this gig straight from the sound board and released it as a finished album the next day. It was that good. So, I was well blissed! I was there, I was blessed…

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the finest... Honestly, a flat performance from my idol. I know it’s been a long tour, and energy runs dry but by comparison to July 11th last year. Different story. Venue, crowd all take a moment to think about an artist that needs feedback but regardless I’ve seen me’shell ‘will’ and ‘seduce’ an audience prior so I have to state disappointment at this one. Knowing the lady as well I can given my following since 1993 ... she will take this on the chin. Come correct my angel, we deserve that from you. X

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moving top drawer performance! Despite not having seen Meshell perform for over 20 years she did not disappoint. I loved the energy she brought to her performance and she clearly enjoyed herself. He bass playing and construction of both her own songs and covers was simply delightful.
