Join The Masquerade - The Phantom Of The Opera Musical

The Phantom of the Opera is an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical which first opened in the West End in 1989 at His Majesty’s Theatre.

It tells the story of Christine, a talented soprano, who captures the attention of the Phantom, a masked musical genius living in the depths of the Paris Opera House. As he becomes obsessed with her, he takes Christine as his student. Their bond grows, but when her past resurfaces, the Phantom must confront his fears and test the strength of their love.

The musical has since had several international productions, including in America and Canada, Australia and New Zealand, China and Hong Kong, Russia and Poland, Mexico and Argentina, and even a World Tour in 2019! Global audience numbers now tally over 130 million people in 145 cities across 27 countries.

It was adapted into a film in 2004, featuring Gerard Butler as the Phantom, Emmy Rossum as Christine, and Patrick Wilson as Raoul.

Behind the Mask - What Is The Phantom Of The Opera Based On?

The Phantom of the Opera (originally Le Fantôme de l'Opéra) is a novel by French author Gaston Leroux. It was first published as a serial in Le Gaulois between 1909-1910, and later published in English as the novel we are familiar with today. It is partly inspired by historical events at the Paris Opera during the nineteenth century, and by an rumour that a former ballet pupil's skeleton was used in a 1841 production of Der Freischütz.
