Rated 1 out of 5 by Dorset Maid from Ruined by volume I went to this event with a friend and had been looking forward to it. The gi was meant to start at 8.30pm but did not get going till 9pm. Although the musicians were very talented, we both found the volume so loud as to be physically painful and we left after only half an hour. It was disappointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Nickthevic from James Taylor Quartet - June 2017 A really brilliant evening. It was our first time seeing the JTQ and our first time at Mr. Kpys. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We hope to return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Joco from An excellent gig This was a real xmas special. This took me back at least 20 years when I used to watch JTQ in much smaller venues. Great audience please and a real treat in the encore with a New Jersey Kings track

Rated 5 out of 5 by rikfarish from JTQ never fail to deliver!! First time at the Jazz Cafe, but definitiely not the first time seeing JTQ. They never fail to deliver, the set is always a great mix and the band always give it 110%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Doof from Jazz funk legends in a vintage 80's setting stopped short by flooding toilets! Four times I have missed out on seeing JTQ when friends have gone but this time I have caught them and what magnificent surroundings. The weirdest venue I have been in for years. Down a back street, and like a cross between a working mans club and 80's disco. A far cry from Ronnie Scott's where they recently did two nights and are regulars. 9pm on the dot they take the stage. Once they had summed up the reluctant audience they cleverly temped a good proportion onto the dance floor and made them appreciate how good this outfit are. From where I am on the balcony I have a birds eye view of James Taylor's finger work which is stunning but then the whole band are so competent and slick. 75 minutes later there is some proper dancing and good times ensue but then....it's over. Possibly earlier than could have been with JTQ announcing that the sewers are overflowing!! In a weird way I don't think I would have enjoyed the evening half as much as I did in this throwback venue where you stick to the floor and has charm but feels more like hen party tribute territory than jazz funk pioneers. Perfect gig with JTQ keeping close to their roots and away from recent vocal albums which are themselves great but cannot be travelled easily.
